Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have arrested two suspects over the kidnap of an eight-year-old boy and demand for a N700,000 ransom.

The command’s spokesperson, Rahman Nansel, said in a statement on Thursday that the arrest followed a report by a resident of Tudun Wada, Sani Bello, to the Mararaba A Division, Karu Local Government Area.

“He reported that on March 15, 2025, at about 2000 hours, his eight-year-old son, Abdulrahman Sani, was abducted by unknown individuals in the Tudun Wada area of Mararaba. The abductors later contacted him via phone, demanding a ransom of ₦700,000 for his son’s release,” Mr Nansel said.

He said the state police commissioner immediately ordered directives to investigate the incident, after which the suspects, Surajo Yusuf, a 22-year-old native of Katsina State and Peter Samuel, a 23-year-old resident of Nasarawa town, were arrested.

“During interrogation, Surajo Yusuf confessed to carrying out the abduction alone and later enlisting the assistance of his accomplice (Peter Samuel ) to keep the child under the false pretence that the boy was his nephew,” the police spokesperson said.

Mr Nansel, however, said the victim was rescued unharmed along Nasarawa Road, Keffi, and has since been reunited with his family.

He added during the search of the suspects’ residence, the police recovered the Nigeria Correctional Service and Nigeria Immigration Service uniforms, a national identity card, and three ATM cards bearing different names.

Mr Nansel said the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
