Following an avalanche of condemnations, Tope Fasua, an economist and presidential aide, has pulled down his Facebook post labelling a corps member, Ushie ‘Raye’ Uguamaye, a commercial sex worker.

Ms Uguamaye was targeted by trolls sympathetic to President Bola Tinubu’s government after she excoriated the Nigerian leader over his harsh economic policies, adjudging him the most terrible president in Nigeria’s history.

In a cryptic Facebook post on Tuesday, Mr Fasua, who had earlier shared a video of Ms Uguamaye eating in a restaurant, said, “Somebody who came to get her share from the N661 billion sub-sector that Lagos is famous for.”

A recent report indicated that in 2024, N661 billion was spent by men in Lagos for sexual satisfaction in transactional relationships.

The presidential aide added, “Which smell she dey perceive? Una know una sef eyin onise okunkun.”

Checks by Peoples Gazette showed Mr Fasua, a one-time presidential candidate of defunct ANRP, has pulled down the post after Nigerians berated him for making such a controversial statement, accusing a female critic of his principal of prostitution.

“It is disgraceful that Tope Fasua, an educated man, would stoop so low as to label a young NYSC corps member, Raye, with demeaning words simply for criticising bad governance. This is a textbook example of the toxic masculinity that constantly tries to silence women who speak up,” an X user, @TrendfusionNG, wrote.

He added, “Whenever a woman dares to challenge the system, some insecure man resorts to baseless accusations instead of addressing the real issues.

“Tope, using such derogatory language as ‘prostitute’ in the 21st century is not only insulting but also makes a mockery of your own intellect.”

@Joyforever74 said, “@topefasua, with his first class, can’t think normal.  Are they not feeling the heat? May God fight for us oo.”

Earlier, Temitope Ajayi, another presidential aide, said the corps member who called his principal a “terrible” leader deserved to be executed by hanging or firing squad, saying, “If she is not a corper, she can say whatever she fancies like people do per second.

“Citizens can abuse a living day out of their president or any public official. It is normal. But a corper violated her oath and code of conduct here. That is capital punishment under NYSC.”
