Bangladesh, Nigeria trade hits $100 million

The Bangladesh high commissioner to Nigeria, Masudur Rahman, announced that relations between Bangladesh and Nigeria have significantly strengthened in recent years.
He highlighted that bilateral trade has grown from $50 million to more than $100 million.
Mr Rahman made this statement on Wednesday in Abuja at a reception marking Bangladesh’s 54th Independence and National Day celebration.
Mr Rahman highlighted the growing interest of businesses and entrepreneurs from both countries in forming mutually beneficial partnerships.
He noted flourishing collaborations in various sectors, including ICT, agriculture, knitwear, government-to-state trade, and defence and diplomatic training through university partnerships.
“Bangladesh has deep roots in Africa, especially in Nigeria. Our people share common aspirations,” Mr Rahman said.
He also revealed plans to expand engagement in the blue economy to deepen economic ties between the two nations further.
The high commissioner reflected on the shared values of both countries, emphasising their mutual desire for a society based on equality and inclusivity, free from exploitation.
He stressed the importance of leveraging demographic diversity, bridging the digital divide, and fostering sustainable growth for future generations.
Mr Rahman reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to further strengthening its bilateral relations with Nigeria.
Nigeria’s foreign minister, Yusuf Tuggar, congratulated Bangladesh on its anniversary.
Mr Tuggar said there had been a longstanding friendship between the two nations since establishing diplomatic relations in 1976, noting the continuous cordiality in their relations.
He commended the collaborative efforts of Nigeria and Bangladesh in enhancing trade and economic cooperation and expressed optimism for deeper engagements in the future.
