A 42-year-old herbalist, Adepoju Ifaleke, on Tuesday appeared before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly exhuming a dead body and interfering with the corpse.

Ifaleke is standing trial on a one-count of indecently interfering with a dead body.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Samuel Owolabi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 9, at about 6.00 a.m. at Komu Agate Mining Camp, Komu, Iseyin in Oyo State.

Mr Owolabi alleged that the defendant indecently interfered with a human corpse by exhuming it and removing some bones and hair, leading to his arrest.

He said the offence contravened Section 242 (1) (b) of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, G.I. Oladele admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Oladele, thereafter, adjourned the case until May 12 for hearing.
