Lagos commissioner donates food items to needy in Badagry

The Lagos State Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, on Thursday distributed 1,000 bags of beans and garri to the vulnerable in Badagry to cushion the effects of economic hardship.
Speaking at the distribution of the food items tagged ‘Ounje Anu Ogunlende,’ the commissioner emphasised his commitment to giving back to society, particularly to women.
Mr Ogunlende said that the food items were distributed through 13 different groups, including market women, religious groups, the Igbo women’s group, and the Hausa women’s group, to ensure they reached those most in need.
He stated, “Today we have 500 bags of beans and 500 bags of garri to be given to 13 different women leaders, including our APC party structures. This will go a long way in feeding at least 15,000 families during the Easter celebration. I enjoy interacting with women when it comes to community support because they understand the needs of the vulnerable. This is my way of ensuring they are not forgotten.’’
Mr Ogunlende, however, highlighted the efforts of the Ministry of Youth and Social Development in addressing societal needs, stressing that community involvement is crucial.
“The ministry may not reach every home, but if we unite as a people—through mentorship and collective support—we can build stronger communities,” he said.
Badagry Local Government Area APC Women Leader, Olayinka Atoyebi, praised the commissioner’s consistency in supporting the less privileged.
Ms Atoyebi assured that the food items would get to the vulnerable in Badagry.
“Ogunlende always considers us, especially in these tough times when food is a major challenge. This gesture will go a long way in alleviating hunger,” she said.
Supervisor for Education in Badagry Local Government, Sewede Pot-Balogun-Olorunfemi, recalled it was not the first time the commissioner had extended such support.
According to her, the commissioner recently empowered 150 women traders with cash.
“With hunger biting harder, this food distribution is timely. When people have food, the economy feels a little lighter,” she said.
She appealed for more initiatives to combat poverty in the country.
