Several roles these stars have portrayed have showcased their versatility across numerous genres. Their talents have earned them several prestigious honours on the international stage.
Here is a list of Nigerian actors and actresses in Hollywood who use their platforms to proudly represent the nation’s heritage, joining other top acts in the global film industry.
Uzo Aduba
American actress Uzo Aduba, born to Nigerian parents, is best known for her incredible role of Suzanne ‘Crazy Eyes’ in Netflix’s original comedy series, Orange is the New Black. The show’s success earned her three Emmy awards, as well as a Tony nomination.
Chiwetel Ejiofor
Chiwetel Ejiofor, a British-Nigerian actor and filmmaker, was recognised for his performance in 12 Years a Slave in 2013 before starring in Marvel’s Doctor Strange in 2016. His latest work, A24’s horror movie Backrooms, directed by Kene Parsons, has grossed over $300 million, making it A24’s highest-grossing international film.
John Boyega
British actor John Boyega has also become a household name in films and television series abroad. His notable appearances include Pacific Rim, The Woman King, and Star Wars. He has won awards for his work, including the BAFTA Rising Star Award. He started his professional acting career in 2011 with his breakout role in Attack the Black, before starring in Star Wars in 2015.
Wumni Mosaku
Wunmi Mosaku was born in Zaria, Nigeria, before relocating to the UK as a child, where she began her acting career. She has appeared in major hit films and TV series, including Loki, Lovecraft Country, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Deadpool & Wolverine. She also earned her first-ever Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Annie, the priestess, in Ryan Coogler’s Sinners in 2025.
David Oyelowo
British actor David Oyelowo is recognised worldwide for his portrayal of Martin Luther King Jr. in the 2014 biographical drama Selma. The film paved the way for other roles in numerous TV shows and movies, including Role Play, Jack Reacher, Government Cheese, and more.
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, a British actor of Nigerian descent, is well known for a range of roles across film and television, including Oz, Lost, Euphoria, Suicide Squad, and Thor: The Dark World. Before pursuing a career in acting, he made his directorial debut with Farming, a film inspired by his childhood and featuring Nigerian actress Genevieve Nnaji.

Cynthia Erivo

Her efforts have earned her global acclaim, including a Tony Award, Grammy Award, and Daytime Emmy Award. She also stands as one of the actresses to reach the EGOT status.
Ayo Edebiri
American actress, writer, and comedian Ayo Edebiri, whose father is Nigerian, has emerged as one of Hollywood’s brightest young stars. In 2024, she won a Primetime Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and a Golden Globe Award for her performance as Sydney Adamu in the television series The Bear. She has also appeared in films such as Bottoms, Inside Out 2, and Opus.
Damson Idris
British actor Damson Idris, whose parents are Nigerian, gained international recognition for his lead role as Franklin Saint in the acclaimed crime drama Snowfall, for which he earned a BET Award. He has since starred in Hollywood films, including Outside the Wire and F1: The Movie, alongside Brad Pitt.
