The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Olohundare Jimoh, has reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling criminals, especially vandals targeting government infrastructure.

Mr Jimoh, who reiterated the command’s commitment during an interview on Sunday, condemned the activities of cable vandals, describing them as saboteurs who were unfit to live in society.

He said, “Lagos being the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria, our responsibilities go beyond law enforcement. We focus on crime prevention and control, from apprehending criminals to creating a safe environment for all.’’.

According to him, the security of Lagos State remains a top priority for the police command.

He stated, “When I assumed duty, I prioritised inter-agency collaboration. That is why there’s been no conflict between the police and other security or safety agencies. We have been working superbly on the same page.’’

Mr Jimoh, who highlighted the role of the police as the lead agency for internal security, said, “We are also subject to public opinion and must keep the public informed of our activities.”

In line with efforts to enhance crime, the CP said he introduced a standby intervention squad known as the Eko Strike Force, as part of a restructured crime prevention strategy.

“The issue of crime has been greatly reduced due to increased patrols and proactive actions. We are working to apprehend criminals before they act,” he noted.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his continued support, citing the recent donation of 72 patrol vehicles to the police divisions.

Addressing the rise in cable vandalism, Mr Jimoh said the command was intensifying efforts to combat the menace.

He said, “We have directed all 25 tactical squads and the Eko strike force to go after the vandals. But beyond that, we are also targeting those who receive and trade in stolen cables.’’
