A 42-year-old truck driver, Jimoh Mohammed, who allegedly stole electrical materials worth N18.2 million, has appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The defendant is standing trial before Magistrate Mrs Funke Ogun on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Inspector Esther Adesulu, told the court that the defendant conspired with others now at large, to commit the offence on April 23, at the Abule Osun area of Ojo.

She alleged that the defendant, a truck driver contracted to transport two 20-foot containers loaded with electrical materials from Apapa to the Ajangbadi area of Ojo, broke into the containers and stole the contents.

According to the prosecution, the defendant allegedly conspired with others, and stole multiple electrical materials valued at N18.2 million

He said the containers belonged to a company, De-Amalink Trafo Enterprises, represented by one Mr Jeremiah Ezeamaku.

The prosecutor said that the defendant was eventually arrested by the police.

The offence contravenes the provisions of section 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The section 287 provides that stealing carries a penalty of three years’ imprisonment if found guilty.

The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of one million naira with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate adjourned the case until June 2, for mention.
