To extend his reign above 40 years, President Yoweri Museveni has declared to run for the Ugandan presidency after 39 years in power.

Mr Museveni, 80, in a post on X on Saturday, announced that he has picked up his party’s presidential and chairmanship nomination forms.

“I expressed my interest in running for both the position of presidential flag bearer and NRM party national chairman by picking up nomination forms at the NRM headquarters in Kyadondo,” Mr Museveni said.

The 80-year-old politician boasted that Uganda has witnessed transformation during his 39-year reign.

“Since 1986, Uganda has progressed through five stages of development, and the NRM aims for the country to become a $500 billion economy in the next five years,” Mr Museveni said.
