The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has sensitised residents of Jigawa to safety tips to curb road traffic crashes (RTC) involving tankers and articulated vehicles.

Ado Adamu, the acting unit commander (FRSC), Ringim, said this on Saturday at a town hall meeting in Ringim, the headquarters of Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa.

He said the corps has embarked on a nationwide sensitisation exercise to address the spate of tanker and trailer accidents.

Mr Adamu said the exercise aims to remind stakeholders of their roles in preventing RTC, especially those involving tankers and trailers.

“It is also to inform about the FRSC’s policies and programmes to interact, share ideas, identify strengths and weaknesses with a view to coming up with proper solutions to the menace,” he said.

He commended community and religious leaders, security agencies and transport unions for their support of the corps.

The Emir of Ringim, Sayyadi Mahmud, lauded the FRSC for traffic control and rescue operations.

Mr Mahmud, who reiterated the council’s support for the corps, enjoined motorists to observe traffic rules.

The sector commander, Umar Masa’udu, stated that the corps would collaborate with stakeholders to reduce road accidents.

“What I’ve seen today is your total support and commitment to the FRSC project, and it will be registered to the Corps Marshal,” he said.

Badamasi Garba, chairman of the Ringim Local Government Council, commended the corps for its commitment to safe roads.

He pledged support to the corps to enable it to discharge its duties effectively.

The exercise was attended by representatives of the state government, the State Security Service (SSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), the Nigerian Army, and the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NURTW), among others.
