Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has donated N100 million to the College of Medicine, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida University, Lapai, and its 41 pioneer medical students.

Mr Bago announced the donation when he hosted the students set for clinicals at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, and the management team of IBBU, Lapai, on a thank-you visit in Minna.

He explained that out of the N100 million, each of the 41 students going for the clinicals was to receive N2 million while the College of Medical Sciences was to get N8 million.

The governor further said N10 million was to be given to the management of the institution.

Mr Bago also announced that a bus would be provided for the students for easy movement during the period of their clinicals at ABU Zaria.

The governor expressed concern over the challenges faced in getting a place for their clinicals and assured that the IBBU Teaching Hospital would soon be completed.

He congratulated the students and charged them to be good ambassadors of the state, urging them not to hesitate in communicating with the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Murtala Bagana, if they encounter challenges during the clinicals.

Mr Bagana stated that the 41 pioneer medical students of the institution comprised 21 males and 20 females.

He said they were on a courtesy visit to the governor to appreciate him for making it possible for them to go for the clinical.

Also speaking, the President of the IBBU, Lapai, Medical Students Association, Jamilu Mikhail, on behalf of other students, expressed appreciation to the governor for securing an alternative place for them for their clinical.

He promised that the students would not to disappoint the state and appealed to the governor to include them in the existing bonding scheme to serve the state after graduation.
