Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa has commended security agencies in the state for the rescue of Justice Ebieyerin Omukoro from his abductors.

A statement by Daniel Alabrah, chief press secretary to the governor, quoted Mr Diri as saying that security men went on the trail of his abductors that led to the release of the judge unhurt.

The governor praised the combined effort of the security agencies, particularly men of the State Security Service (SSS), for their unrelenting pressure on the kidnappers that eventually led to his freedom.

He said the criminals, who fled due to the pressure, would be arrested and be brought to justice.

Mr Omukoro, a judge of the state’s high court, regained his freedom on Thursday evening after 12 days in the kidnappers’ den.

Mr Diri restated his warning to criminally-minded individuals to steer clear of Bayelsa as his administration had zero tolerance for criminals

Similarly, the state judiciary commended the state government and security agencies for the release of the judge.

A statement by Julius Nyananyo, head of media and information of the Bayelsa State judiciary, quoted the chief judge of the state, Justice Maltida Abrakasa, as commending everyone involved in securing Mr Omukoro’s safe return.

“Special commendation goes to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, GCON, and members of the National Judicial Council.

“The security agencies, particularly the DSS, the Nigeria Police, Bayelsa State Command, among others, for their strategic operations, synergy, and dedications,” Ms Abrakasa said.

Ms Abrakasa observed that the operation that led to the rescue of the judge underscored the power of collaboration, patience, and professionalism in resolving such delicate situations.

She said: “As we celebrate this positive outcome, we remain committed to addressing the root causes of such incidents and further ensuring the safety of all judicial officers in the state.

“We are happy to state that Justice Omukoro is now receiving medical and psychological support and requests privacy during this period of recovery,” she said.
