Gov Buni asks new emir to support anti-drug war in Yobe

Governor Mai Mala Buni has urged the new Emir of Gudi, Ismaila Ahmed, to support the fight against drug abuse.
Mr Ahmed’s appointment was approved by the Yobe governor on Saturday, following the death of the former emir, Isa Madugu.
Mr Buni made the call when the new emir and his subjects paid him a thank-you visit in Damaturu on Monday.
He said the use of illicit drugs had become a major concern across Northern Nigeria, especially among young people.
“The traditional institution is highly respected and commands a large followership, making it vital in tackling drug abuse,” Mr Buni said.
He stressed the need for joint efforts between governments and traditional institutions to curb the growing menace.
“As custodians of culture and tradition, traditional rulers must guide the moral upbringing of youths,” Mr Buni added.
The governor congratulated Mr Ahmed, saying his selection was widely welcomed by the people, reflecting a broad consensus.
Buni further urged the Emir to promote peace, unity, and tolerance across his domain.
“You’ve been a successful politician and now a royal leader; your experience in tolerance and leadership is invaluable,” he said.
He prayed for unity and progress under the new emir’s leadership and wished him a peaceful and prosperous reign.
Mr Buni also prayed to Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the late emir. He prayed for comfort and strength for Mr Madugu’s family as they bear the loss.
Mr Madugu died in Abuja on Thursday after a brief illness. He was buried on Saturday according to Islamic rites.
