Police arrest four over murder of farmer in Bauchi

The police command in Bauchi says it arrested four suspects following the killing of a farmer during a farmer-herder clash in Guda village, Ningi council area.
In a statement on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, said the killing occurred at about 7:40 a.m. on September 23.
“Three farmers from Guda Village went to their farms on Guda Hill and found cattle belonging to a herder grazing on and destroying their crops,” he said.
According to him, they chased the cattle to the herders’ settlement, where an argument ensued and escalated into a fight.
“In the process, the three farmers sustained injuries. Sadly, in retaliation, some youths from Guda village mobilised and set ablaze houses at the herders’ settlement,” Mr Habib stated.
He noted that the police responded promptly, restored normalcy and evacuated the injured to General Hospital, Ningi, where one of them, Usman Jibrin, 40, later died while receiving treatment.
He added that police arrested four suspects on Thursday through intelligence-led operations, saying that the suspects were arrested for alleged criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, arson and culpable homicide.
