Former President Goodluck Jonathan has extended his condolences to the government and people of Ghana following a military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two ministers, military officers, and others.

The crash, which occurred on Wednesday in Ghana’s southern Ashanti region, killed all passengers on board.

Among the victims were defence minister Edward Boamah and environment minister Ibrahim Mohammed.

Mr Jonathan, in his condolence message shared on his social media handle on Wednesday night, described the tragic incident as painful.

He prayed to God to grant the families of the victims, the government, and the nation the fortitude to bear the loss.

“I extend my deepest condolences to His Excellency, President John Mahama, the government and people of Ghana, and the bereaved families on the tragic incident. The military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Ghana’s Minister of Defence, Edward Boamah, Minister of Environment, Ibrahim Mohammed, and other distinguished officers and citizens.

“They were committed public servants who gave their lives in service to their country. Their passing leaves a painful void in the hearts of many. I join you in paying tribute to their patriotism and the sacrifices they made for the peace, security, and progress of Ghana.

“I pray that their legacy continues to inspire future generations of Ghanaian leaders. May God grant you, the affected families, and the people of Ghana the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. And may the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace,” Mr Jonathan said.
