A 53-year-old man, Jeremiah Egbebe, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing property valued at N7 million.

Egbebe, whose residential address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that on February 7 at about 2.00 a.m., in the Jibowu area of Lagos State, the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace.

She alleged that Egbebe stole packages of goods containing jewellery, hair extensions and shoes, all valued at N7 million and belonging to Matthias Apeh.

She said that the offences contravened Sections 168 (1) (d) and 281 (2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

The Magistrate, L.A. Owolabi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.

Mr Owolabi adjourned the case until September 16 for further hearing.
