NYSC condemns Anambra vigilance team’s assault on female corps member

The National Youth Service Corps has condemned the assault of a female corps member by operatives of the Anambra State Vigilance Group in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
The position is contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by the Acting Director, Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu.
Ms Embu said the management of the scheme was saddened by the dehumanising treatment meted to the corps member, describing the conduct of the vigilance operatives as “unacceptable.”
She said the management condemned the manner in which the operatives carried out their operations, irrespective of their justification for the purported investigation at the corps members’ lodge.
According to her, NYSC appreciates the concern of the public over the incident, as well as the initial measures taken by the Anambra State government.
She said, “Management wishes to assure the public that it believes in and supports the ongoing investigation by the Nigeria Police Force towards unravelling what transpired. This, we trust, will help get justice for the corps member in question and any other aggrieved party.’’
Ms Embu added that the scheme had initiated administrative procedures to assist the corps member in managing the psychological and physiological trauma resulting from the incident.
She restated the NYSC’s commitment to the welfare and security of corps members nationwide.
