Katsina lawmaker urges youths to use social media for peace, security

A member of the House of Representatives, representing Kurfi and Dutsinma Constituency, Aminu Balele, has charged youths to promote peace through the use of social media.
Mr Balele said that such development would help the communities and the state government in tackling the security challenges in the state.
The lawmaker made the call on Saturday at the closing of a 5-day digital/social media training and empowerment for about 300 youths from the constituency.
The theme for the training was: ‘Digital Creators, Future Leaders: Empowering Youth to Shape a Positive Online World’.
Mr Balele emphasised the importance of responsible social media usage as a tool for community development, self-reliance, and political participation.
He said, “You should deploy your digital skills in helping both the communities and government to tackle insecurity by promoting peace, unity, and awareness online.
“You should also showcase the efforts of government at all levels so as to strengthen the ruling APC and attract more members into the party.”
Highlighting the economic value of digital literacy, Mr Balele advised the trainees to use social media as a platform for entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
Mr Balele, popularly called ‘Dan-Arewa’, stressed, “social media is not only for chatting, but a powerful tool that can change lives if used effectively and responsibly.”
The training was sponsored by the lawmaker, in partnership with the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS), Salhanny International Ltd, and Atar Communications Ltd.
NBAIS officials, led by Muhammad Kabir-Adamu, head of training and development, urged the participants to cascade the knowledge acquired by sharing it with other young people in their communities.
