Nasarawa assembly advocates more humanitarian services to disaster victims

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has urged the ministry of women affairs and humanitarian services to provide more humanitarian services to communities affected by disasters in the state.

Hajarat Danyaro Ibrahim, chairman of the House committee on women affairs and social development, made the call when the management of the ministry appeared before the committee on its second quarter budget performance on Thursday in Lafia.

Ms Danyaro said that the victims of disasters in the state need more support to give them a sense of belonging.

”I want to urge you to be more proactive when there is an emergency, disaster or flooding.

”When there is a disaster, you need to visit the affected community as quickly as possible to identify, assess and provide them with relief materials,” she said.

She acknowledged the effort of Governor Abdullahi Sule in giving his best to the people of the state through various programmes for women, orphans, widows and others.

The committee chairman assured of her support to enable the state to provide the dividends of democracy to its people.

Earlier, Hauwa Samuel, the commissioner for women affairs, commended the committee for ensuring that the standard of living of women, orphans, victims of disasters, among others, is improved.

The commissioner assured of the ministry’s commitment to quick response to emergency situations.

She commended the governor for having women, orphans and the entire people of the state at his heart.
