China decries Israeli strikes in Doha, calls for ceasefire talks

China has condemned Israeli airstrikes targeting Hamas leadership in Doha and called for a resumption of ceasefire negotiations to end the war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said in Beijing on Wednesday that China was “deeply concerned” about escalating tensions and criticised “certain sides” for disrupting talks aimed at securing a ceasefire in Gaza.
He urged all parties, “especially Israel,” to make greater efforts to resume dialogue.
The strikes, launched Tuesday on Hamas leaders in the Qatari capital, come amid ongoing pressure from Israel for Qatar to shut down Hamas’ political office, a move Qatar has resisted, citing its role as a mediator.
Israel has targeted Hamas leadership consistently since the war in Gaza began in October 2023
