NSC backs Amusan, Brume-led team Nigeria for Tokyo 2025

The National Sports Commission has reaffirmed its support for Team Nigeria ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
The event is scheduled from September 13 to 21.
In a statement, NSC chief Bukola Olopade urged the athletes to give their best and bring honour to the country.
He said the commission and Nigerians were firmly behind the team.
“From the beginning, the NSC chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, declared that Nigeria must get it right in athletics,” Mr Olopade said. “This is a moment of pride. We trust our athletes to compete with determination and secure podium finishes. The commission will continue to support them and stand behind them as they fly our flag in Tokyo.”
Mr Olopade would be in Tokyo to provide frontline support to the team throughout the competition.
The 15-member team is led by world record holder in the 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, and long jump star Ese Brume.
They are joined by a mix of seasoned and emerging athletes competing in sprints, jumps, throws, and hurdles.
