Man arraigned over alleged theft of cocoa beans worth N700,000

A 23-year-old man, Timileyin Kayode, on Thursday appeared before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing cocoa beans worth N700,000.
Kayode, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of breach of peace and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on September 7 at about 8.00a.m at Mosarajo Village, Ile-Ife.
Mr Osanyintuyi said that the defendant stole cocoa beans belonging to the complainant, Rotimi Olajide.
He said that the defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace.
Mr Osanyintuyi said that the offences contravened Sections 249(d) and 390(9) of the Criminal Law of Osun, 2002.
The Magistrate, Abosede Sarumi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ms Sarumi ordered that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
She added that the sureties should own landed property and provide three years tax clearance to the Osun State Government.
Ms Sarumi adjourned the case until October 9 for mention.
