Police nab seven suspected robbers in Bauchi

The CP urged residents of the state to be vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to protect lives and property.

The police in Bauchi State have apprehended seven suspects over alleged robbery in the metropolis.

The spokesman for the command, Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the development in a statement on Friday in Bauchi.

He said operatives of the command sequel to discreet investigation apprehended the suspects, who terrorised Federal Polytechnic Bauchi; Yelwa, Birshi Gandu, Birshin Fulani, and Gwallameji areas of Bauchi.

Mr Wakil said the suspects were members of a notorious robbery gang and identified 13 others, now at large.

He stated, “Acting on intelligence, detectives attached to Yelwa Divisional Headquarters apprehended another suspect on September 1, 2025. He allegedly coordinated attacks involving about 20 youths from different areas in Bauchi metropolis. The gang reportedly invaded student hostels at Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, stealing valuables such as mobile phones, laptops and power banks.’’

He noted preliminary investigation showed that the suspects had been selling each of the stolen phones for N40,000 through their accomplice.

He added that the suspects engaged in multiple robberies, burglary, injuring victims who resisted, and fled to neighbouring states to evade arrest.

The spokesman said the police on September 9, foiled an attempted motorcycle theft at the Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi.

He said operatives of the command acting on a tip-off, rescued the suspect from being lynched by a mob.

Mr Wakli said the Commissioner of Police, Sani Aliyu, directed transfer of the cases to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), for thorough investigations.

The commissioner urged residents of the state to be vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to protect lives and property.
