Gov. Idris approves N1.1 billion for Kebbi’s indigent students’ registration, college projects
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has approved the release of over ₦1.1 billion for key interventions in education and the settlement of outstanding indigent students’ registration fees.
The state Commissioner for Higher Education, Isah Abubakar-Tunga, made this known in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.
According to him, the approval was given by Mr Idris as part of his administration’s commitment to improving access to quality education in the state.
Mr Abubakar-Tunga said that the projects in the approval covered the renovation of the Abdulsalam Nagimbana, Bush House and Emir Haruna Rasheed students’ hostels at the state’s College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega, costing N230.2 million.
He said, “Procurement of essential equipment for the take-off of the newly established College of Midwifery, Ambursa, Birnin Kebbi, covering library, demonstration room, ICT, sick bay, physical sciences laboratory and microbiology laboratory, at the cost of N251.5 million. Payment of outstanding registration fees for Kebbi State students studying across the country for the 2024/2025 academic session, amounting to N695.9 million. These landmark interventions clearly demonstrate Governor Idris’ unwavering commitment to expanding access to quality education and strengthening the state’s tertiary institutions to compete favourably with their counterparts across the nation.’’
He described education as a vital long-term investment and the foundation of sustainable societal progress, saying that no effort or resources should be spared in safeguarding the future of the younger generation.
The commissioner commended the governor for the timely approval and urged students and all citizens of the state to continue to support the present administration with prayers to successfully deliver on its mandate.
