Plateau govt. constructs 80,000-litre water treatment plant
The Plateau government has commenced the construction of an 80,000-litre motorised solar water treatment and supply system plant in Tudun Wada, Jos North Local Government Area (LGA).
Bashir Datti, commissioner for water resources and energy, said that the plant was part of the government’s ongoing efforts to improve access to clean and safe drinking water across the state.
Mr Datti stated that the project was designed to harness renewable solar energy for water purification, thereby cutting costs and ensuring a sustainable supply of potable water around the area.
According to him, the project, when completed, would boost water supply and provide thousands of households in Tudun Wada and surrounding communities with potable water.
The commissioner explained that the plant would not only expand water distribution capacity but would also serve as a model for integrating clean energy into water treatment.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to investing in modern water infrastructure, noting that a sustainable water supply remained central to public health, economic growth, and environmental protection.
Mr Datti called on the people of Tudun Wada to own the project and safeguard it from vandals.
Earlier, Peter Adah, district head of Tudun Wada, commended the government for the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that would address the long-standing water shortages in the area.
Mr Adah assured the state government that the project would be safeguarded during and after construction.
