Okpebholo appoints Omonzejie as new AAU vice-chancellor

Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the appointment of Eunice Omonzejie as the new vice chancellor of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.
The appointment was announced in a statement on Monday night. It said the appointment, which takes immediate effect, followed the recommendation of three candidates by the university’s governing council, from which Ms Omonzejie emerged.
The Edo government congratulated the new vice-chancellor and urged her to deploy her wealth of experience and leadership skills in advancing the institution’s mandate of producing world-class graduates and driving research and innovation.
A distinguished scholar of French and Francophone African literatures, Ms Omonzejie is a long-serving academic in AAU’s Department of Modern Languages.
She is regarded as a prolific researcher and editor with groundbreaking contributions to African and Francophone literary studies, gender studies, and cultural studies.
Her published works include Women Novelists in Francophone Black Africa: Views, Reviews and Interviews, French Language in Nigeria: Essays in Honour of UFTAN Pacesetters, and Language Matters in Contemporary West Africa.
The statement added that beyond academia, Ms Omonzejie had been a strong advocate for women in education.
“As former president of the AAU chapter of the National Association of Women Academics, the vice-chancellor championed mentoring, research, and advocacy for female academics and students,” it said.
