North-East commission trains 600 teachers in Gombe

The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has trained 600 teachers in Gombe State to improve the quality of education in the region.
Usman Mohammed, the NEDC coordinator in the state, said on Tuesday that the commission has trained teachers under a strategic intervention designed to rebuild the education sector, which has been affected by conflict and displacement in the region.
“Some of these teachers have never attended any formal training in their entire career, and the exercise has already started contributing positively to teaching standards in schools across the state,” he said.
According to Mr Mohammed, the commission’s management is passionate about education as the foundation for any meaningful development.
“If a child is not educated, we don’t know what the future holds for him; that’s why we’re committed to strengthening education at all levels,” he said.
He said the commission was collaborating with the Gombe State government to enhance school enrolment to bring out-of-school children back to the classrooms.
Mr Mohammed said the commission also donated school bags, writing materials, and colours to pupils to attract children back to school and encourage learning.
“These materials may seem small, but they go a long way in motivating pupils to take education seriously,” he added.
