Nigeria’s Senior Men’s Cricket team, on Friday, defeated their Malawian counterparts by nine wickets to win their opening game of the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup Africa Qualifier.

Nigeria won the toss and opted to field at the Takashinga Sports Club in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Nigeria’s bowling attack restricted the Malawians to 88 all out in 19.3 overs.

Ridwan Abdulkareem’s three for 24, Chiemelie Udekwe’s two for 11, and captain Sylvester Okpe’s one for seven were instrumental to their bowling prowess.

In the chase, Nigeria needed just 11.2 overs to secure 92/1, with Sulaimon Runsewe getting his first half-century of the tournament in the process.

It was a comfortable chase for Nigeria as they won by nine wickets.

The team will face Namibia in their next game on Sunday.

The eight-team tournament will see the top two get tickets to the World Cup in 2026.
