NAPTIP probes female employer’s alleged bathing of teenage home help with hot water
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons is probing an alleged pouring of hot on a 16-year-old home help by her employer.
In a statement on Friday, NAPTIP said concerned neighbours of the employer in Abuja, took the victim to the hospital for medical attention, before reporting the case to the agency.
The statement read in part, “The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued a 16-year-old domestic worker in the Gwarinpa area following a tip-off from concerned neighbours.”
According to NAPTIP, the victim hails from Imo State, from a family of 12, and had been caring for her employer’s three children consisting two-month-old twins and a seven-year-old boy while the employer worked at night.
“Reports indicate that the girl was scalded with hot water by her employer. Alert neighbours quickly rushed her to a hospital and immediately contacted NAPTIP, prompting a swift rescue operation.”
The agency noted that investigation had commenced into the incident, assuring that all individuals involved in the act would face the full weight of the law.
