Police, army rescue eight of 12 lawyers kidnapped along Okene-Auchi Road
The Nigeria Police Force, in a joint operation with the Nigerian Army, rescued eight victims kidnapped on Friday along the Okene-Auchi Road, in Okene, Kogi State.
In a statement on Sunday, NPF spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said efforts to rescue the remaining four victims are already underway.
Mr Hundeyin said, “Of the twelve persons kidnapped on Friday, 26th September 2025, along Okene-Auchi Road, eight have been rescued by the police in conjunction with the military. Concerted efforts are in top gear to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining four victims.”
This is in response to a post by human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu on Saturday, who claimed that the victims are lawyers returning to Benin, Edo State, from their Call to bar ceremony in Abuja.
Mr Gwamnishu wrote, “Some lawyers returning from their Call to Bar ceremony held on 23rd September in Abuja have been kidnapped while traveling back to Benin. They were kidnapped somewhere around Okene, Kogi State. Among the victims are a young female lawyer and her sister.”
The activist said kidnappers are having a free hand along the route, leaving travellers at their mercy.
