Osun assembly passes sports commission bill, others

The Osun State Assembly on Monday passed the State Sports Commission Establishment Bill, 2024, which allows for a commission saddled with the formulation and implementation of sports policies in the state.
The bill was presented to the assembly on November 5, 2024, by the executive.
The assembly also passed the Osun Startup Bill, 2025, for Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and the Osun State Communal Crisis Management and Peace Building Bill, 2025.
The Osun State Compulsory Treatment and Care for Gunshot Victims Bill, 2025, was also passed at the plenary.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, informed members of the need to fast-track all pending bills, as the assembly awaits the 2026 Appropriation Bill from Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“It is important to note that there are bills awaiting our attention and deliberation, and as you are all aware, consideration of the year 2026 draft budget, which will be presented before the house in due course, will commence immediately. It is, therefore, needful to fast-track consideration and passage of all the pending bills as early as possible,” he said.
Mr Egbedun said clean copies of the passed bills would be forwarded to the governor for his assent and that any amendment to the bills would be done administratively.
The speaker, however, committed the Osun State Multi-door Court Establishment Bill and the Osun State Islamic and Traditional Marriages Registration Bill to the appropriate committees to work on them.
The House dissolved into the ‘Committee of the Whole’ to deliberate on the Osun State Emergency Management Agency Amendment No. 1 Bill, 2025.
The assembly thereafter adjourned sitting until Monday, October 27.
