First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has inaugurated a digital learning centre in Yobe under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Social Investment Programme (SIP).

The facility, located at the Shehu Sule College of Nursing in Damaturu, was equipped in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

Speaking at the occasion, Ms Tinubu, represented by Hafsat Kollere, the wife of Governor Mai Mala Buni, noted that nine other digital learning centres were established in Abia, Edo, Delta, Katsina, Lagos, Nassarawa, Kano, Ondo, and Zamfara states.

The first lady said the RHI, in collaboration with NITDA, also constructed and equipped four community information and communication centres (ICTs) and named them after notable women who contributed to the country’s development.

Mrs Tinubu said the centres were sited in Bauchi, Ilorin, Lagos, and Benue states.

She said 15 ICT centres were established by the RHI and equipped by NITDA across the country to further expand digital literacy.

Mrs Tinubu noted that increasing access to digital skills would enhance participation in a digital economy, a key priority area in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

She said this would accelerate economic diversification through industrialisation and digitalisation.

Mrs Tinubu urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the facilities to enhance learning, creativity, and entrepreneurship, thereby improving livelihood.

In his remarks, Mohammad Gana, the state commissioner of health, noted that embracing technology was no longer an option but a necessity.

He said in health care, experts leverage technology to enhance diagnosis, improve the management of health care facilities, and block financial leakages, among others.
