The Edo State government says it will soon enforce the urban development regulations to ensure public safety in the state.

Imoisili Igabali, managing director of Edo Development and Building Control Agency, announced this on Friday in Benin.

Mr Igabali said, in a statement, that the exercise would entail the clearance of encroachments on road reserves and power line (TCN) right-of-way in the state.

He said that the clearance, which would begin this month, would focus on structures and obstructions previously served with removal notices in several key areas across the state.

“This is to inform the general public, especially occupants of the road reserves and TCN (power line) right-of-way in the areas listed below.

“These areas were initially served with removal notices, and there will be a total clearance in line with the mandate of the Edo State Development and Building Control Agency.

” All affected parties are advised to remove any valuable items on or before the commencement date,” he said.

According to him, the areas affected in the first phase of the exercise include Irhirhi-Ebo-Iyekogba axis, Etete/Etete Road,

“Those on  Ugbor/Ugbor Village Road, Oriokpa, Elema Quarters, Adesuwa Grammar School Road, and Country Home Road, all in the Edo South senatorial district,” he said.

He emphasised that this operation was part of its mandate to sanitise urban spaces, prevent environmental hazards, and promote safe infrastructure development.

He urged residents and property owners within the listed zones to remove all valuables and structures encroaching on the designated right-of-way before the exercise begins.
