Liberia honours ECOWAS for supporting democratic governance

The Liberian government on Thursday hailed ECOWAS member states for their pivotal role in sustaining the country’s democratic governance.
Foreign minister Sara Nyanti made the remarks during the 95th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers in Abuja.
According to her, the bloc’s support has been instrumental in Liberia’s peaceful democratic transitions.
“On behalf of the government and people of Liberia, we express our gratitude to ECOWAS as we commemorate ECOWAS@50,” Ms Nyanti said.
She added that Liberia planned to honour ECOWAS countries and leaders for their sacrifices in promoting peace and democracy.
The event included the presentation of an appreciation plaque by Mr Nyanti to ECOWAS, received by ECOWAS Commission president Dr Omar Touray.
The session witnessed the signing and handover of the official document relocating the ECOWAS Youth Secretariat headquarters from Burkina Faso to Liberia following the Sahel country’s withdrawal from the bloc.
