Father, son in court over N5 million land dispute

A 91-year-old man, Yekini Olajide, on Wednesday appeared before the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan over alleged forcible land entry and the destruction of property valued at N5 million.
The defendant was charged alongside his son, Ibrahim Olajide, 34, with conspiracy, forcible entry, malicious damage, and threat to life. Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Femi Omilana, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on September 1, at Igbodudu, in the Lanlate area of Ibadan.
Mr Omilana alleged that the defendants forcibly entered a land belonging to Oyelade Oduneye and damaged her signposts, wooden beehives, plantain suckers, and cash crops valued at N5 million.
He also alleged that the defendants threatened Ms Oduneye’s life and prevented her from accessing the land.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 81, 86, 451, and 516 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The magistrate, Adebola Adeola, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N5 million each, with two sureties each in like sum.
She thereafter adjourned the case until February 10, 2026, for hearing.
