Mavo, Fola, Shoday, Zaylevelten, Famous Pluto lead new wave of artistes in 2025

The year 2025 witnessed the rise of a new generation of Nigerian music stars who stole the spotlight both at home and abroad. These emerging artistes are driving major shifts with unique sounds in the music industry, delivering anthems that went nationwide and establishing themselves as rising talents on the mainstream stage.
Mavo
Born Marvin Osaremen Ukanigbe, also known as Kilolo or Mavo, is a 21-year-old Edo star who burst onto the scene in 2025 with his addictive “Bur Bur” vibe. A teen starter who honed his skills at Afe Babalola University, he launched his music career in 2023 with the EPs Ukanigbe and Sanko.
In 2025, Mavo dropped high-energy hits from his project “Kilometer”, including “Fast Fuga”, followed by the viral smash “Escaladizzy” featuring Wave$tar. The deluxe edition, “Kilometer II”, included “Escaladizzy II” with Shallipopi, Ayra Starr, and Zlatan, alongside fan favourites “Kilogram” with Famous Pluto, “Too Busy” with Kashcoming, and “Shakabulizzy”. He also earned number-one records with Wizkid, DJ Tunez, and DJ Maphorisa on “Money Constant”, featured Davido on the remix of “Shakabulizzy”, appeared on Zaylevelten’s “Wuse Tu”, scored another chart-topper with Ckay on “Body”, and hopped on Amapiano hits like “Galorizzy” with Davido and “Welele” with TXC. For Kilolo, the sky is truly the limit.
FOLA
Nigerian singer Folarin Odunlami, professionally known as Fola, came into 2025 with a clear mission: to stay consistently on the radar. He achieved this with his debut project, “Catharsis”, which became the country’s number-one album, and its lead single, “You”, topped charts. Through the album, Fola tells the story of how much can happen in a single year, featuring collaborations with top artistes like Kizz Daniel, Victony, and more. His talent continued to shine later in the year when he featured on DJ Tunez’s smash hit with Wizkid, “One Condition”, earning him another number-one single on music platforms.
Fola’s journey into music began humbly in high school in Ibadan, where he formed a band, though he had to pause due to limited resources. He later moved to Lagos and signed a major record deal with Dangbana Republik Records, Bella Shmurda’s label, which paved the way for his breakthrough tracks. What sets Fola apart is his calm, soulful sound and intentional lyricism, qualities that firmly established him as one of the top artists defining Nigeria’s music scene in 2025.
Zaylevelten
Chisom Okoro, also known as Zaylevelten, smashed the “Rap is Dead” myth. Starting as Aizay in 2020-21 with “Poe Up,” he rebranded in 2023. Originally focusing on English rap lyrics, Zaylevelten made a major shift in 2025, blending English with Pidgin and other languages, which allowed his Trap, Alte, and Afro-trap sound to reach its full potential.
His music quickly resonated with the youth, with social media platforms like TikTok and Snapchat helping snippets of his songs go viral. The momentum grew when he released his hit single “Maye”, followed by his first album “Then 1T G0T CRAZY” and its deluxe edition “Then 1T G0T CRAZIER”, featuring collaborations with ODUMODUBLVCK and Mavo. The projects produced fan favourites such as “Guide Pass”, “Zanku”, “Idanski”, and “Idanski Two” with ODUMODUBLVCK, “Wuse Tu”, “Bali”, and more. With his famous producer tag “Tenski save me”, fans know a hit is coming. Zaylevelten has established himself as a promising talent, keeping hip-hop alive both in Nigeria and across the continent.
Shoday
Shoday owned the streets in 2025, hopping on tracks and producing songs that made people dance and have a great time. The young prospect followed in the footsteps of top industry acts, featuring on viral energy tracks like “Hey Jago”, a smash hit that included collaborations with Poco Lee and Rahmav. He also went on to secure collaborations with Davido, Adekunle Gold, Zlatan, TXC, Scott Maphuma, and more, delivering a lineup of hits including “Bobo”, “Nakupenda”, “Shoday Kilode A1”, “Welele”, and many others. The musician is a key act to watch and is expected to deliver consistently in the coming years while continuing to release street anthems.
Famous Pluto
The Uzama brothers have produced another rising star: Famous Pluto. Following in the footsteps of his siblings, Zerry DL and Shallipopi, Famous Pluto brings the same catchy, groovy sound that made his family famous. He first turned heads with his debut single “Na Scra”, quickly gaining recognition on social media for his talent and potential. In 2025, he dropped his debut EP “Uzama the 3rd”, which featured the major smash hit “Ewo” with Zerry DL and Shallipopi, followed by the collaborative project “Unto the Next” with Zerry DL. With his early success and growing fan base, Famous Pluto is a young artiste whose journey is definitely one to watch.
