Morocco 2025: Coaching Super Eagles best job in world, says Eric Chelle

Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has said that managing Nigeria’s national team is the best job in the world.
Chelle said this ahead of the West African nation’s last Group C match against Uganda in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday.
“I don’t know (when I finish coaching this team) if I will feel something like that because it is the best job in the world. I am very proud to work for this nation,” Chelle said while addressing journalists at the pre-match press conference in Fes on Monday.
The 48-year-old noted that the team is ambitious in their pursuit in Morocco, adding that he and the other coaching assistants are ready to die for Nigeria.
“We are ambitious every day. The guy I brought to work with me feels the same and wants to die for this nation, so every training session and every speech that I give, I give from my heart, and every goal that we concede, it is like someone beat me,” Chelle stated.
In his eulogy to Victor Osimhen on the occasion of his birthday, the Malian called the Galatasaray forward “my favourite striker,” adding, “For me, he is the best striker in the world. He is very good, he is focused, and I hope this AFCON will be a great tournament for him.”
Regarding the fitness of Stanley Nwabali and Frank Onyeka ahead of Tuesday’s match after both complained about discomfort following the game against Tunisia on Saturday, the coach said both players are still in pain.
“Nwabali has a pain in his knee and Frank in his ankle, but we will manage the team. We will have our last training session today, so the most important thing is our state of mind for this game,” he told reporters.
Meanwhile, Captain Wilfred Ndidi said the team is in high spirits ahead of the game against Uganda. He added that he was happy to score his first goal for Nigeria against Tunisia, attributing his Kanu Nwankwo celebration to childhood memories of his father.
“I am very happy about the goal. It’s my first goal after so many years, and about the celebration, it came from the memory of my dad. I remember growing up and my dad talking about Kanu a lot, so when I scored the goal, the celebration just came into my head at that time,” the former Leicester City midfielder said.
