Senator Solomon Adeola on Tuesday expressed condolences to world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua following a ghastly accident which claimed the lives of two members of his team.

This is contained in a statement in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Tuesday by the media aide to the senator, Kayode Odunaro.

Mr Adeola, who represents Ogun West, regretted the unfortunate incident, adding that it had cast an ‘ugly shadow’ on an otherwise joyous holiday season for Nigerians and boxing fans worldwide.

“It was indeed a sad event involving a boxing legend from Ogun State that occurred in Makun. The loss of precious lives on holidays is heartbreaking,” he said.

He wished Mr Joshua and his driver speedy recovery from injuries as well as trauma sustained in the accident.

Mr Adeola prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased and fortitude for their families and friends to bear the irreparable loss.

The Ogun State public education officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Afolabi Odunsi, on Monday, confirmed the incident in a statement in Abeokuta.

Mr Odunsi explained that the incident occurred at 12:00 p.m.

The FRSC had attributed the crash to speeding and wrongful overtaking, noting that the car lost control before colliding with a stationary truck.
