Eti-Osa Local Government Council in Lagos State on Wednesday conducted a free house-to-house refuse evacuation exercise across the Ikota School Community and Igbo-Efon axis.

Sanitation officials moved from house to house to collect refuse.

The exercise was part of the council’s efforts to promote environmental cleanliness and improve waste management across the local government area.

Speaking after the exercise, the Chairman, Alimot Adetoro, said her administration was committed to providing effective and responsive environmental services to residents.

Ms Adetoro said the exercise involved sanitation personnel moving from house to house to evacuate accumulated domestic waste.

She said the initiative would help residents maintain cleaner surroundings and reduce indiscriminate waste disposal.

According to her, the exercise forms part of the council’s broader environmental sanitation efforts.

She explained that proper waste disposal would help prevent the blockage of drainage channels, which could contribute to flooding and other environmental hazards.

Ms Adetoro urged residents to take ownership of the cleanliness of their communities by disposing of waste properly and avoiding indiscriminate dumping.

She also called on residents to support government sanitation initiatives to ensure a cleaner environment.

The chairman assured residents that the council would continue to implement practical environmental interventions across communities.

She said the measures were part of the administration’s commitment to achieving a cleaner, healthier and safer Eti-Osa.

Responding to the exercise, a resident, Sunday Ademola, commended the chairman for intervening in community waste disposal.

Mr Ademola, however, urged the council to make waste evacuation a continuous service rather than a monthly exercise.
