Five dead, five injured in Gombe-Bauchi road crash: FRSC
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of five people in a multiple auto crash on the Gombe-Bauchi road, in Akko Local Government Area (LGA) of Gombe State.
The Gombe sector commander, Samson Kaura, confirmed the accident in an interview with journalists on Monday.
According to him, three vehicles, including a tanker, a Toyota car, and a Bajaj motorcycle, were involved in the crash, which occurred at noon on Monday.
Mr Kaura said 10 people were affected by the crash, which claimed the lives of three people, while two others died on their way to the hospital.
He said five others sustained varying degrees of injuries, ranging from head injury to fracture and laceration.
According to him, the injured persons have been taken to a specialist hospital in Gombe for medical care, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the mortuary of the hospital.
Mr Kaura said a preliminary investigation showed the crash was caused by dangerous driving, adding that the car was attempting to overtake when it collided with the tanker.
The commander warned drivers against wrongful overtaking, noting that it endangers passengers’ lives.
“Whenever you want to overtake, always ask yourself if the overtaking is lawful, necessary, and safe.
“Drivers must always ask themselves these questions before any overtaking, because this crash is really unfortunate and should have been avoided if the driver had taken the right decision,” he said.
Mr Kaura urged motorists to prioritise safety whenever on the road.
