Yobe varsity appoints Tahir as substantive vice-chancellor

Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved the appointment of Mohammed Tahir as the substantive vice-chancellor of Yobe State University, Damaturu.
This was announced by the institution’s governing council chairman, Ahmed Goniri, on Friday in a statement.
Mr Goniri said the appointment was approved by the governor following the council’s recommendation at its extraordinary meeting held on January 15.
According to him, Mr Tahir is a professor of General Surgery and a fellow of the West African College of Surgeons.
Until his appointment, he was the medical director of the Ultra-Modern Police Hospital, Damaturu.
Mr Tahir will take over from the acting vice-chancellor, Bukar Jamri, who assumed office in January 2025 following the expiration of the former VC, Mala Daura’s tenure.
The chairman also said the council approved the appointment of Isa Dallari as the university’s substantive registrar.
According to him, Mr Dallari’s appointment followed a recommendation by the council’s selection committee, in accordance with the Yobe State University Law, 2006 (as amended).
Mr Goniri added that the new registrar was a director of administration at the institution before his appointment.
