Guard bags three-month jail term for stealing cable

A Magistrates’ Court in Asokoro, Abuja on Wednesday sentenced one Suleiman Umar, 27, to three months in prison for stealing armored cable from the Kastina State Government Lodge, Abuja.
Umar, who is a security guard at the lodge, pleaded guilty to the offence of theft by servant.
The Magistrate, Abdulmajeet Onyangi, sentenced him to three months imprisonment or an option to pay N150, 000 fine.
He also warned Umar to desist from committing crimes and to maintain good behaviour.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, R.O. Mohammed, told the court that the convict and one Ade Samuel, 30, conspired and stole an armored cable from the Kastina State Government Lodge, Abuja.
Mr Mohammed said that the convict sold the cable to one Abdullahi at N54,000.
He said that the matter was reported at the Asokoro Police Station by Inspector Abdulrahab Abdul, attached to Kastina State Government.
Samuel on the other hand pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
The magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.
He said that the surety shall present evidence of employment with a valid means of identification.
Mr Onyangi adjourned the matter to Jan. 25 for trial.
