Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has constituted  a three-member panel to investigate the causes of the recent students’ protest at Kwara State Polytechnic.

The commissioner for tertiary education, Saadatu Modibbo-Kawu, confirmed this in a statement on Wednesday.

The governor on Tuesday ordered the polytechnic’s closure to protect lives and property following unrest triggered by students’ protests.

Ms Modibbo-Kawu said the committee is headed by the attorney general and commissioner for justice, Senior Sulyman.

“Other members are the commissioner for environment, Nafisat Buge, and the permanent secretary, service welfare, Dr Mercy Shittu,” she said.

She said the committee has two weeks to submit its report, examining immediate and remote causes of the protest and its handling.

“It will also recommend measures to prevent a recurrence and make proposals to support the institution’s growth,” she said.

The commissioner added that the panel will engage all relevant stakeholders during the assignment.

She said the governor directed the rector, Abdul Jimoh, to step aside immediately pending further notice.

She also directed that the most senior deputy rector should act in an interim capacity.
