Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa has charged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state, to drive positive change locally.

He urged them to render honest and dedicated service to their host communities.

Mr Namadi gave the charge during the swearing-in of 1,990 corps members of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I, orientation exercise, on Friday in Dutse.

The governor, who was represented by the commissioner for information, youths, sports and culture, Sagir Musa, urged them to be part of problem solving in challenges facing their host communities, the state and Nigeria at large.

“As a highly skilled segment of our population, it behoves on you to be part of the problem-solving team by expressing your potentials through rendering honest and dedicated service to your host communities.

“Our people are generous and loving, but place high premium on respect of law of the land, especially culture and ways of life generally,” he said.

“Our society is presently facing daunting developmental challenges, notably among which is the urgent need to address the increase in youth unemployment,” he said.

According to him, these challenges come with consequences such as poverty, growing crime rate, and depreciation in the standard of living of the people.

“These complex and multi-dimensional challenges, no doubt, require the full application of every rationale means available to us. It is therefore, imperative that our collective efforts must be sustained continually towards finding a lasting solution to these problems.

“In this regard, your effective participation in the orientation camp activities is necessary to put you on the right perspective in our efforts at this development,” Mr Namadi said.

He further assured the youth of both government and people’s effort towards maintaining and sustaining a peaceful atmosphere to promote growth and development of public and private sectors of the economy.

The governor also assured the corps members of their safety during the three-week orientation exercise and the service year ahead.

“I want to assure you that the state government is mindful of your welfare and security, and has provided significantly toward these,” he added.

The NYSC coordinator in the state, Jidda Dawut, reassured the members of both government and people’s hospitality.

“The 1,990 corps members deployed to the state have already exhibited positive virtues and high standard of patriotism on arrival to the orientation camp.

‘’This is a clear indication that they will excel in the tasks assigned to them during the orientation course and service year,” Mr Dawut said.

The coordinator charged the corps members to fully participate in all activities line up in the camp.

He said the activities had been carefully designed to engage the agile youth toward self reliance and build their capacities for future responsibilities.
