Ogun West professionals seek consensus candidate for 2027 governorship race

A group, Ogun West Professionals, has called for unity and consensus among political stakeholders in Ogun West Senatorial District, as part of efforts to produce a governor in the 2027.
The group’s Chairman, Steering Committee, Yemisi Bamgbose, made this known while speaking with journalist in Ilaro on Tuesday.
Mr Bamgbose noted that the move was aimed at ending decades of political marginalisation of the district, which has not produced a governor since the creation of Ogun State in 1976.
He stated that persistent disunity among political actors hindered the district’s chances in previous governorship contests.
Mr Bamgbose, the Executive Secretary of Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON), said the professionals were drawn from different fields and communities across the five local government areas of Ado-Odo/Ota, Imeko-Afon, Ipokia, Yewa North and Yewa South.
According to him, the group is working to harmonise opinions within the district and present a united front capable of attracting support from Ogun Central and Ogun East senatorial districts.
He said, “Our focus is to build internal cohesion in Ogun West and then engage other stakeholders across the state to secure broad-based support for the district’s governorship aspiration.
“While it may be difficult to achieve total agreement across political parties, the group is advocating that aspirants from Ogun West in major political parties should emerge as governorship standard bearers to give the district a fair chance in 2027.”
Mr Bamgbose said the group would hold a media chat with Olamilekan Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, on Sunday at Frontiers Hotel, Ilaro.
He said the event, expected to attract over 2,000 participants, was funded by members of the group and would involve journalists, traditional rulers, community leaders, professionals and artisans.
Mr Bamgbose added that the media chat would provide an opportunity for Mr Adeola, a frontline governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to outline his agenda for the district ahead of the 2027 election.
“The Senate Leader, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele, representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, is expected to attend the event as guest speaker,” he said.
