The National Orientation Agency has called on all stakeholders to actively mobilise communities and ensure widespread participation in the measles and rubella integrated vaccination campaign in Akwa Ibom.

NOA’s director in Akwa Ibom, Mkpoutom Mkpoutom, made the call during a meeting in Uyo on Thursday.

Mr Mkpoutom said that measles, rubella, polio, and other childhood killer diseases were highly contagious infections.

According to him, they pose serious health risks, including complications such as pneumonia, encephalitis, and congenital defects in unborn babies when contracted during pregnancy.

“The success of this campaign depends on the collective effort of every community leader, religious institutions, health workers, educators, and the media.

“We must work together to dispel myths and misconceptions about vaccines and encourage parents and guardians to present their children for vaccination,” Mr Mkpoutom said.

Mr Mkpoutom urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, and youth groups to use their influence to promote the campaign within their domains.

He also called on the media to intensify public awareness through jingles, interviews and community-focused programmes.

“Every child deserves a healthy start in life, and vaccination is one of the most effective ways to guarantee that. Let us all play our part in ensuring that no child in Akwa Ibom is left unprotected,” he said.

He assured the public of the vaccines’ safety and efficacy, stressing that they have been rigorously tested and approved by relevant health authorities.

He reminded the public that the vaccination services are provided free of charge.
