Economist urges FG, China to collaborate for trade development

An economist, Chinedu Amadi, has urged the federal government, private sector and investors to deepen collaboration with China to accelerate trade development and enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global market.
Mr Amadi, also the president of the Organisation of Youth in International Trade and Commerce (OY-ITC), a non-governmental organisation, said this on Thursday in Abuja.
He said that deepening the Nigeria/China partnership would accelerate industrialisation and boost global competitiveness by providing zero-tariff market access for Nigerian goods.
According to him, the collaboration between both countries will foster technology transfer in manufacturing and enhance infrastructure, including railways and port capacity.
“This strategic partnership will also facilitate local production, job creation and economic diversification,’’ he said.
Mr Amadi urged Nigerian entrepreneurs, investors and youths to explore partnerships, technology transfer and educational opportunities to strengthen economic growth.
He said that collaboration between Nigeria and China could advance agriculture, boost food security and increase yields.
He stated, “Recently, I undertook a business and study trip to China’s commercial and agricultural hubs; I visited various cities and business areas in the country.
“The journey offered valuable opportunities to acquire more knowledge about advancements in business.”
Mr Amadi described Guangzhou in China as a global trading centre with efficient infrastructure, advanced logistics systems and strong digital connectivity, attracting investors, students and entrepreneurs worldwide.
He said that Guangzhou’s commercial district hosted active African trading communities, especially Nigerians involved in cosmetics, fashion accessories, hair products and consumer goods.
According to him, structured supply chains, fast transactions and scalable operations demonstrate China’s strength in mass production, quality control and export readiness.
He said that China’s electronics markets highlighted innovation-driven manufacturing and competitive pricing supporting international trade networks.
Mr Amadi said that China’s high-speed rail system reflected technological advancement and efficient transportation supporting economic productivity.
He cited the Longping Rice Museum as an example of China’s investment in agricultural research aligned with national development and food security goals.
The OY-ITC president said that he also visited Hunan Agricultural University, noting that collaboration between education, research and industry enhances productivity and export capacity.
He described the China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation Building in Changsha as a strategic platform that promotes manufacturing partnerships, agricultural technology transfer and investment facilitation.
He said, “Nigeria can learn from China’s industrial clustering, logistics efficiency and policy-backed innovation strategies.”
He said organisations such as OY-ITC, DuKAN George Ltd and Trade Horizon Magazine aimed to connect Nigerian investors with Chinese manufacturers and structured market opportunities.
