A truck has crushed a couple’s car, killing one at Eleko junction along the Lekki-Ajah Expressway in Lagos.

The truck, loaded with granite, killed the man in the car. The woman, according to authorities, is in critical condition.

The crash happened on Thursday when the truck’s brakes failed, authorities said.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, in a statement, said the truck was speeding when it experienced a brake malfunction, veered off the designated path and collided with the car.

“Today, swiftly responded to a grievous early morning road traffic catastrophe that transpired at Eleko Junction along the Lekki–Ajah Expressway, culminating in the untimely death of a male motorist and the critical injury of his spouse.

“Preliminary security briefings reveal that an articulated truck, heavily burdened with granite and travelling at an inordinate speed from the Epe axis, was approaching Eleko Junction when it reportedly experienced a catastrophic brake malfunction,” stated LASTMA.

It added, “His wife, seated in the front passenger position, sustained life-threatening injuries and was immediately rescued for urgent medical attention.”
