Defence chief tells Delta Safe troops to be professional

Defence chief Olufemi Oluyede has charged troops of the Joint Task Force (South-South), Operation Delta Safe, to uphold professionalism and integrity in the discharge of their duties.
Mr Oluyede gave the charge while inaugurating an ultra-modern non-commissioned officers’ accommodation and a remodelled conference hall at the headquarters of JTF SS OPDS in Igbogene, Yenagoa, Bayelsa, according to a statement on Friday.
Mr Oluyede warned troops against any illegal activities or compromises, stressing that protecting oil and gas infrastructure remained critical to Nigeria’s economic sustainability.
“Our operations must be guided by professionalism, discipline and integrity. The assets you protect are central to national stability and economic growth,” he said.
Mr Oluyede reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare and working conditions of personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, noting that enhanced welfare packages were being proposed to boost morale and operational efficiency.
He commended the commander, JTF SS OPDS, Olugbenga Oladipo, for executing projects that directly impacted troop welfare and operational readiness.
The JTF commander, Mr Oladipo, said the 24-apartment NCOs’ accommodation was equipped with a 24-hour solar power supply, water facilities, furnished bedrooms, and cooling systems to ensure personnel’s comfort.
He said the projects were in line with the CDS’s military strategic philosophy, which places a premium on troops’ welfare as a pillar for operational success.
The commander reaffirmed the task force’s resolve to protect oil and gas infrastructure, deter militancy, curb sea robbery and safeguard lives and property across the Niger Delta.
