Ethiopia moves to become hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing in Africa

Ethiopia plans to implement several measures, including using opportunities offered by the African Continental Free Trade Area, as it aims to become a hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing in Africa.
It will also develop regional supply chains, strengthen regulatory cooperation and introduce joint procurement mechanisms.
Ethiopia’s State Minister for Health, Muluken Argaw, said this on Friday, according to TV BRICS.
According to the minister, these measures will help expand medical product production in Africa.
He emphasised that developing local production of essential medicines, vaccines and medical equipment is crucial to ensuring health security.
“Ethiopia’s ambition looks beyond our borders. We are ready to leverage the African Continental Free Trade Area, develop regional value chains, and expand opportunities for African-made health products,” he said.
The minister emphasised that Ethiopia also intends to develop medical tourism.
According to forecasts, the country’s pharmaceutical market will exceed $4 billion by 2030.
